Tiny Homes Grand Opening

On September 10, 2024, Crittenton Center announces the Grand Opening and Tour of their six Tiny Homes, located at 3901 Green Avenue, Sioux City, IA 51106 on Friday, September 27th. There will be a Ribbon Cutting ceremony at 12:00pm followed by tours of the homes from 12:30pm until 2:30pm.

“The Tiny Homes project grew out of a passion to better support youth that are aging out of foster care at 18 years old and are at great risk of homelessness,” says Kim Scorza, Crittenton Center CEO. “We wanted to do better for these kids, to give them a safe and welcoming place they can be proud to call home while they continue to grow in their independent living skills. Our kids played a key role in designing these homes and are so excited to be able to move in!”

“We are extremely grateful for a large group of donors and community members that have come alongside Crittenton to make this project a reality,” Scorza continued. “It takes a community to care for our kids, and we truly could not have done this without them.”

PLaN Architecture donated the architectural work for the project. “Being a part of the Tiny Homes project has been a wonderful experience,” states Nathan Kalaher, PLaN Architecture CEO.  “To be a part of designing something that will have such a positive impact on the children and their future has had such significant meaning for us.”

Steve Nelson, CEO of Nelson Commercial Construction, the lead builder on the project, states: "It has truly been an honor for us at Nelson Construction to partner with the Crittenton Center and PLaN Architecture on a project such as The Tiny Homes.  This project will change the lives of children in our community, who otherwise may have been homeless.  Projects such as this not only reaffirm our core values, but it sets the foundation for future generations to build a life full of love, home and dreams."

Crittenton Center is grateful for the partnership with PLaN Architecture and Nelson Commercial Construction, as well as the subcontractors who also donated to the project, including Wrenn’s Plumbing and Heating, 3R Construction, Kalins Indoor Comfort, Guarantee Roofing, Thompson Electric, Murphy Companies, Pella Gateway, SuBSurfco, Tri-State Drywall, Barcon Inc., and Lindblom Services.

The Grand Opening and Tour will be on Friday, September 27th, with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 12:00pm followed by tours of the homes from 12:30pm until 2:30pm.
