About Us
Crittenton Center is a nonprofit organization that specializes in Child and Family Development, and Child Welfare and Well-being. For over 125 years, we have placed children and families at the center of every decision we make. Crittenton Center’s qualified and caring employees provide innovative care through trauma-informed interventions and approaches, evidence-based practices, and researched play-based curriculums. Additionally, we strive to educate, inform, and raise awareness in our communities about child abuse prevention, child development, and great parenting! Our mission is to shelter, educate, and empower children, individuals, and families.
Simply put, Crittenton Center employees, volunteers, and board members are steadfast, passionate, and unshakable about meeting the needs of Iowa’s children and families! We have been doing this for over 125 years, and it’s in our organization’s DNA!
Our History
Founded in 1895, Crittenton Center has a rich history of providing services to children, teens, and families in need.
Since our humble beginnings in 1895, Crittenton Center has changed to meet the ever-evolving needs of our community.
Conceived initially as a maternity home for unwed mothers, the agency is now a multi-disciplinary, family-oriented nonprofit (501c3) designed to give children and families the support they need to feel cared for, nurtured, healthy, safe and lead successful, self-sufficient lives.
While our services over the years have changed, our mission, vision, beliefs, and values have not.
