Sioux City, IA: On August 3, 2024, Crittenton Center has been awarded a $5,000 Art Project Grant to support the Art Empowerment: Bridging Creativity and Behavioral Development project. Funding for this program is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA).
This generous grant will enable Crittenton Center to partner with the Department of Art and Design from Northwestern College in Iowa, led by Department Chair Phil Scorza and his talented colleagues. This unique collaboration aims to provide transformative art experiences for youth residing in Crittenton’s Transitional Therapeutic Home.
The Art Empowerment: Bridging Creative and Behavioral Development project will facilitate a series of art classes designed to foster creativity and support behavioral development. Youth participants will engage in hands-on art activities, guided by Northwestern College’s experienced art educators and/or students. This initiative will not only enhance artistic skills but also promote emotional expression and personal growth.
“We are incredibly grateful for this grant opportunity and the chance to collaborate with Northwestern College’s Department of Art and Design,” said Crittenton Center’s VP of Community Engagement and Development, Christina Eggink-Postma. “This opportunity will empower our youth by providing a creative outlet that supports their therapeutic journey.”
Phil Scorza, Chair of the Department of Art and Design at Northwestern College, shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are excited to work with Crittenton Center and contribute to the positive development of these young individuals through the power of art.”
The initiative underscores the commitment of both organizations to harness the arts as a means to link expression and growth, ultimately enriching the lives of the youth they serve.
