“This place is a mansion! Mansions have a lot of rooms,” a youth once said after entering our Transitional Therapeutic Home.
It’s not, in fact, a mansion. But to them, it felt like one—because for the first time, there was space. Space to breathe, to feel safe, and to begin again.
That moment stuck with us.
In that simple statement, a young person captured something deeper than words—what it means to finally have room for your story, your struggles, and your healing. And from that moment on, the name “The Mansion” was born.
At Crittenton Center, “The Mansion” became the nickname for our Transitional Therapeutic Home—an emergency youth shelter designed to provide immediate safety, stability, and support for young people navigating crisis.
But more than a shelter, it became something bigger.
It became a place where youth could exhale. A place where they were seen. A place where they had room.
Today, that same idea is growing beyond our walls.
With the support of a federal grant from the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Crittenton Center is launching The Mobile Mansion: Outreach in Motion—an initiative designed to bring the safety and support of “The Mansion” directly into the community.
At the center of this effort is a fully outfitted recreational vehicle (RV), transforming outreach into something more intentional, more accessible, and more human. Staffed by our Chief Program Officer of Clinical Services and a dedicated caseworker, the Mobile Mansion creates a space where youth can connect, ask for help, and begin building trust—right where they are.
The Mobile Mansion is expected to hit the streets in May 2026, expanding our reach across Siouxland in a way we’ve never done before.
Not every young person in crisis walks through our doors.
Some are couch surfing. Some are navigating unsafe environments. Some don’t yet trust systems or services. And many remain unseen—not because they don’t need help, but because barriers stand in the way.
The Mobile Mansion changes that.
It allows us to show up first.
To meet youth in parks, neighborhoods, and community spaces. To offer connection before expectation. To build trust before asking for anything in return.
The Mobile Mansion carries forward the same spirit that inspired its name.
It’s not about the structure—it’s about the space it creates.
Inside, youth will find more than services. They’ll find consistency, compassion, and people who are ready to meet them where they are—without judgment.
Through this initiative, Crittenton Center will provide:
Every interaction is rooted in dignity, respect, and the belief that every young person deserves the chance to feel safe and supported.
What started as a single comment from a young person has grown into something much larger.
“The Mansion” was never about a building.
It was about what that space made possible.
Now, as the Mobile Mansion prepares to take to the streets, we carry that meaning with us—expanding beyond walls and into the community.
Because every young person deserves room.
And now, we’re bringing that room to them.
